(Photo credit: J.Esterhuizen 2016) - To this day the historical influence of religion on the ethos of nursing is still evident. This statue of a religious sister protecting a baby grace the entrance to the (now) Mediclinic Gynecological Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa.   The nursing training centre occupies the old  convent and the Catholic Church is still evident across the road.
